On December 4, at the 4 pm Mass, we will offer the Anointing of the Sick at St. Mary church. On December 5, at the 11 am Mass, we will offer the Anointing of the Sick at Mater Christi church.

This sacrament is given to those who suffer from illness or advanced age or who face surgery. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, "By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed, she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ."

The effects of this sacrament of healing are profound. The grace given is a gift of the Holy Spirit to strengthen, and to bring peace and courage.

We invite all who are experiencing suffering from ills or aging, or the anxiety of coming surgery to come and receive the Anointing of the Sick. You will be seated by one of our ushers and, after the homily, the priest will come to you for the anointing.

If you know someone who would benefit from the Anointing of the Sick, please let them know when it will be celebrated.
